Saltaire was the first Incorporated village on Fire Island and considered by many to be among the most beautiful of all the communities.  Saltaire is also known for its wide boardwalks and family-friendly activities. The quiet residential community occupies one of the broadest portions of the island.  On its eastern side is Clam Pond, a natural lagoon formed during the 1700′s by the westward movement of the Fire Island Inlet.  Clam Pond’s clear deep waters are a unique place where one can spy the immensely rich plant and animal life typical of some of the more remote places on Fire Island.

The Village of Saltaire also organizes activities including co-ed softball leagues, pancake breakfasts, an annual house and garden tour, basketball leagues, a soccer camp for children, tether ball and more. Saltaire houses a lending library in the village, a grocery store, a post office and a marina.
